Project overview

The rehabilitation of the Long Island Expressway and construction of the new HOV lane, one of the most traveled stretches of road in New York State.

What made this job complex

This particular project had very tight time constraints. The project was defaulted on by the original contractor and was far behind schedule. In order to finish the project on time the entire final stages of asphalt paving needed to be compressed to nearly ¼ of the original contract schedule. 125,000 tons of Superpave asphalt needed to be produced within a three month time frame. The contract also contained plant and field density bonus and penalty clauses with stringent quality control standards.

How Posillico solved it

The asphalt production requirement was met with near round the clock production for the full three month time frame. We had highly experienced plant maintenance crews and quality control teams in place ensuring flawless operation. Due to production running at an optimal level, we achieved 103% of the materials performance bonus and provided a high quality asphalt product to our Civil construction division.
