Project overview

The purpose of this project was to rehabilitate the Long Beach Road Drawbridge over Reynolds channel. The rehabilitation included mechanical and electrical retrofits for the bascule machinery as well as structural steel deck and support replacements and complete painting with environmental protection and lead abatement.

What made this job complex

This was going to be a complex job since traffic was a main issue. The drawbridge was the main access point to the City of Long Beach so it would be an extremely busy work site. Maintaining traffic, both on the bridge and boat traffic on the water was essential.

How Posillico solved it

We utilized our internal marine capacity, working mostly from barges. This made working conditions easier to deal with. The project was also modified with a value engineering proposal that reduced the traffic stages from 3 down to 2. This effectively reduced the traffic impact to the traveling public.
